A few of the many photographs I’ve taken at the former Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The company has been abandoned for years; the property is now being developed over a course of ten years into something new, but they’re incorporating many of the old buildings into the project. It’s really something else the way trees and things have taken over the land. The whole place is essentially caught between what it was and what it will be. Many of these pictures were taken through the broken windows of the foundry and other buildings. The final shot, the kanji painted on a brick wall, is something else entirely; Bethlehem Steel was the site where the opening of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was filmed, and the kanji is the only relic left from the shooting.
The young man in this article is the nephew of my friend Regina. He was horrifically murdered earlier this month while on a trip to Michigan (he was sixteen), and now his family doesn’t have the funds to have his body shipped home for burial.
Please read the article, and share the link. There will be a fundraiser car wash this weekend up in Lehighton, if you know anyone in that area. Be sure to read the comments on the article as well; a collection has been established at a local bank to which you can contribute directly regardless of where you live.
